It was a tumultuous time, too, when struggles over civil rights, the Vietnam War, political assassinations, and gender equity sometimes made it seem the world was coming apart. The music helped us get through it. Revisit those times with James Pagliasotti, the first rock & roll columnist for the Denver Post, where he covered music and counterculture from 1968-1974.

Larry Smith, bass player and music professor at Rogue Community College, will create original music in a live looping session using songs inspired by or featured in the Rogue Reads selection Music is History by Questlove. Live looping involves recording, layering, and texturing tracks in real time to create a performance. Audience participation is invited, and there be discussion about how music evokes community, connection to history, and collective emotional meaning. A short Q&A will follow the performance with a chance for attendees to explore sounds in the live looping set-up.

This self-guided activity invites participants to reconnect and explore the natural world under a blanket of snow. Engage in guided, reflective experiences that explore your relationship to winter and how to integrate winter into an annual cycle of conservation activities.

Join us for a special sensory program of songs and play with a simple ribbon wand decorated by participants. This program is for all children, but especially welcoming to those who find large groups intimidating and geared toward engaging children who may have a challenging time in a more traditional setting. The classic era of rock & roll music was a time of incredible creativity in the arts and in artful ways of living. It was a tumultuous time, too, when struggles over civil rights, the Vietnam War, political assassinations, and gender equity sometimes made it seem the world was coming apart. The music helped us get through it. Revisit those times with James Pagliasotti, the first rock & roll columnist for the Denver Post, where he covered music and counterculture from 1968-1974.
