Library program focuses on the theme “Music and Community” with titles for all ages
Medford, Oregon (November 22, 2021)—Jackson County Library Services (JCLS) and the Jackson County Library Foundation (JCLF) announce the third annual Rogue Reads program, encouraging everyone in Jackson County to read and discuss the same books. This year, Rogue Reads will feature titles related to the theme of music and community, including:
- Music is History by Questlove
- If I Ever Get Out of Here by Eric Gansworth
- Amina’s Voice by Hena Khan
- Because by Mo Willems, illustrated by Amber Ren
These books allow all participants, regardless of age, to explore the Rogue Reads theme while sharing conversations that build common ground.
Rogue Reads takes place each winter, December through February. Jackson County residents are invited to join the Rogue Reads Challenge on the Beanstack app or pick up a bingo card at any library branch. Read the featured books, join in a book discussion or program, or bring home a Rogue Reads-themed Take & Make kit, then track your participation on the Beanstack app, or turn in your bingo card for chances to win music-themed prizes. Prizes include an acoustic guitar and case, four passes to the Britt Orchestra concert season, a $50 iTunes gift card, or a basket full of goodies.
Rogue Reads features engaging Rogue Reads programs, including a virtual author talk with Hena Khan on Tuesday, January 17 at 11:00 a.m. and with Eric Gansworth on Tuesday, February 21 at 4:30 p.m. A free, family-friendly Rogue Valley Symphony concert at the Craterian will feature the song in Mo Willems’ picture book Because on Saturday, January 21 at 12 Noon. “Music and literature are two sides of the same coin, and both have a unique way of bringing people together,” said Carrie Turney Ross, JCLS Area Manager. “Each of the selected titles this year approach music from a different angle, but they all teach us that music can bring people together in surprising ways.”
