Medford, Oregon (April 12, 2021)—Beginning Monday, April 19, Jackson County Library Services (JCLS) patrons will notice some visible changes. The Library is implementing changes to its catalog that will improve patrons’ ability to find what they need and will update their website, jcls.org, to better reflect the accessibility of the library.

The new catalog is designed with the patron’s perspective in mind. It will provide improved search capabilities and easy access to all the resources the library offers, from downloadable content to learning databases to information about library and community events. At 5:00 p.m. Sunday evening, April 18th, the current catalog will be unavailable. The new catalog will be live on Monday morning April 19th.

“We’re very excited about the improvements these changes will bring,” said Christopher Davis, JCLS Assistant Director of Support Services. “No more visiting the catalog, then OverDrive, then Hoopla, and then back to the catalog to place holds on titles within these disparate collections—now they’ll all be available with a single search. Best of all, the new catalog is mobile device-friendly and functions great on a smartphone touchscreen.”

Patron information, including holds, will be transferred into the new catalog. Patrons will be able to use their existing library card and account number. To protect patron privacy, PINs (Personal Identification Numbers) will be reset to the last four digits of the primary phone number on file in the account. Both phone number and PIN can be updated after logging in.

The Library’s new website is a major upgrade from the current version. From readability to aesthetics to ease of use, the design is meant to last for years to come by focusing on the future of web design. Websites are as much a portal into libraries as the front doors of the actual buildings, and the new website reflects that by expressing the JCLS personality and goals directly on the screen. Visitors to jcls.org will experience playfulness and wonder wrapped around an immense amount of information and resources—all easier to find than ever before.

Patrons with questions about the new website or catalog can find FAQs at jcls.org, call their local branch library, or email circulation@jcls.org. For questions about downloadable content in the catalog, call JCLS Digital Services at 541 734-3990 or email digitalservices@jcls.org.
