(Medford, OR – 5/21/26) – As area schools start to let out for summer vacation and the days grow longer and hotter, Jackson County Library Services invites you to be part of some fun you need to seed to believe.

The “Plant A Seed, Read” summer reading program starts June 1, and patrons of all ages can join in through August 31. You can either sign up on the Beanstack app at jcls.org/beanstack, or by picking up a paper reading log at one of our 15 branches. Keep track of your reading all summer long, and when you’ve read five books or read 25 minutes daily for 25 days, show your progress to a JCLS librarian to get a free book.

Plenty of free activities and events also await. They include all things Plant A Seed, Read-themed, including special storytimes, fitness events, book sales, book groups, arts and crafts gatherings, gaming sessions , (both tabletop and video), movie screenings, gardening workshops, history presentations, and more.

Also make time for a StoryWalk, hosted by Jackson County Library Services in partnership with Medford Parks’ Recreation and Facilities, where participants read a story on the go as they take in the beauty of Medford’s Bear Creek and Fichtner Mainwaring Parks. This summer, our featured children’s book is Baby Ballena by Mr. G to celebrate his musical visit to Medford during an upcoming event, Family Night Out.

See a full list of offerings in our soon-to-release event guide – starring JCLS’s newest mascot, Franklin the Bumblebee – and online at jcls.org/events.

You can also join in the celebration of the 250th birthday of the United States with America 250, which includes local author talks, programs, and readings. See a complete list of America 250 programs here.

Whatever your interest or curiosity, we hope you’ll make thyme and bee here with us.
