Medford, Oregon (October 30, 2024) – Oregon is currently home to 13 downhill ski areas and resorts, but many others have come and gone over the years. Bend resident Steve Stenkamp, retired teacher and firefighter, has researched these “lost” ski areas of Oregon. To date, he has found 50 different ski areas that are no longer used today, 11 of them located in the southern Oregon area. Join us to hear the stories of some of the lost ski areas of southern Oregon and beyond. Stenkamp will give this presentation Wednesday, November 6, from 12:00 – 1:00 PM in person and online at the Medford Library. If you’re un-able attend the first presentation, you can attend the live stream via Zoom in the Gresham Room of the Ashland Library on Wednesday, November 13, from 12:00 – 1:00 PM.
The monthly Windows in Time lunchtime lectures feature well-known writers and historians and bring alive the people, values, and events that shaped our southern Oregon heritage. Lectures are jointly sponsored by the Southern Oregon Historical Society (SOHS) and Jackson County Library Services. Programs are presented in Medford (first Wednesdays, in-person and online) and again in Ashland (second Wednesdays, in-person). Recordings of Medford presentations are available on the JCLS Beyond YouTube channel.
