Medford, Oregon (February 27, 2023) — Jackson County Library Services (JCLS) welcomes spring with systemwide programs to encourage residents to “Read Outside.”  

Take and Make: Read Outside Kit, 5+ YRS 

Pick up a kit with supplies for a variety of outdoor fun, including seed bombs, nature journaling, poetry, reading lists, and maps to local walking trails. Kits are available while supplies last beginning on the following dates:

Make Your Own Seed Bomb, 6+ YRS 

Seed bombs are little clusters of seeds and soil used to help reseed native plants to wild areas. Learn more about native plants in the Rogue Valley, and create your own seed bomb to use in your garden or out in the wild during these in-person programs.

Read Outside Art Kit & Contest, 13+ YRS 

Attention teen artists! Show us your skills with this “Read Outside” themed art kit. In this kit, you’ll receive some art supplies to create your own work of art around the theme of “Read Outside.” Keep the art for yourself, or bring it back to the library for a chance to win a gift card!  Kits are available while supplies last beginning on the following dates:

Backyard Birding with the Rogue Valley Audubon Society, 18+ YRS 

Join JCLS and the Rogue Valley Audubon Society to learn about birding in your own backyard. Novice and experienced birders alike are invited to learn about simple identification practices and create a bird feeder to attract birds. The feeder will be a pinecone feeder made with bird seed and peanut butter or vegetable shortening.
