Medford, Oregon (May 3, 2021)—Jackson County Library Services (JCLS) welcomes patrons back inside all 15 libraries for limited in-person services beginning Monday, May 3. During this stage in the reopening process, the hours of operation vary by location, with all libraries returning to full hours. Current hours are listed at jcls.org/hours-locations/. Please note that Ashland and Medford library hours have changed. Ashland Library will be open Monday–Thursday from 10:00 am.–6:00 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 12 Noon–4:00 pm. Medford Library will be open Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10:00 am.–6:00 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 12 Noon–4:00 p.m.

The number of patrons allowed in each branch may be limited to ensure social distancing requirements can be met. Patrons are asked to pick up their own holds and use the self-service stations to borrow materials. Floor decals placed at the service desks will assist visitors in maintaining proper distancing. Lounge seating will not be available. The second floor of the Medford Library will be closed for renovations.

Patrons age five and older are required to wear a mask that fully covers nose and mouth when picking up items in accordance with Oregon’s statewide mask mandate; plastic full-face shields are discouraged and are not recommended by OHA (Oregon Health Authority) or the CDC (Centers for Disease Control). Smaller, plastic mouth or chin shields are not an acceptable face covering. Patrons who cannot wear a mask for medical or other reasons, or who remove their mask while in the library, will not be permitted to enter or remain in the library but may request accommodation for picking up materials outside in a socially distanced manner that protects staff and the community.

Computers will remain available during open hours and are first-come, first-served. Patrons are limited to a single 60-minute session per day. Wireless printing is available at all branches; learn more at jcls.org/services/computers-wifi/. Patrons who utilize computers or in-person services must follow all safety protocols, including wearing a mask.

One-on-one appointments in branches with Digital Services Specialists will resume in mid-May. To schedule an appointment, call 541-734-3990 or email digitalservices@jcls.org

COVID-19 vaccine registration assistance is available at each branch. Residents needing access to a computer and internet or assistance navigating the sites for signing up for a vaccine in Jackson County can get help during each library’s regular open hours.

Although in-person browsing is now available, patrons are still encouraged to request book advice and personalized recommendations through the JCLS Discovery online form at jcls.org/collections/book-advice/. A JCLS staff member will curate a customized list of up to 15 books for patrons within three days, and titles can be placed on hold directly from the list of recommendations. Patrons may also browse the online catalog and staff booklists and subscribe to the Library Connect blog at jcls.org/about/library-connect-blog/ to find recommendations. In-person advice is also available at each branch.

Staff are available to answer questions and help with research at information@jcls.org or by calling 541-774-8689 (Medford Library) or 541-774-6996 (Ashland Library).

JCLS continues to provide diverse programming, including some in-person programs and a wide variety of online programs: storytime, author talks, lectures, and more. The library’s popular Take & Make kits also offer a way for patrons to bring programs—like art, craft, STEM, or other projects—home with them. Visit the JCLS events calendar to register for upcoming programs, or the JCLS Beyond YouTube channel to view past presentations.
