ASHLAND, Ore. (Tuesday, June 3) – The Ashland Branch of Jackson County Library Services is looking to commission an artist to create a stained-glass piece that represents inclusivity in library spaces. This artwork will support the library’s strategic goal of fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment, and will be installed in the entryway stairwell, where the recently removed Pride banner was located. The piece will be visible from both inside and outside of the building and fill two of the six panes in the entryway stairwell, an area of approximately 60 square feet. Each pane is 110 inches x 40 inches (see image for rough placement and dimensions).

The selected artist concept will integrate the beautiful views from the window with the desire to symbolize inclusion, and more specifically, Southern Oregon Pride. An abstract piece would be most effective in the space. The budget for the piece is up to $25,000, fully installed. Interested artists can submit their proposals to Kristin Anderson at the Ashland Library by the deadline of July 1, 2025. Proposals must include a conceptual design captured in high-resolution images, breakdown of costs, and a sheet with specifications that describes any necessary components needed to successfully install the piece. Proposals should also include your portfolio to highlight your previous artwork and submissions. We prefer that a prior art piece of similar scale is included in the portfolio. JCLS will select an artist by August 4, 2025. For more information or questions, please contact Kristin Anderson, Ashland Branch Manager at kanderson@jcls.org or call 541-774-6987. Physical proposals may also be dropped off at the Main Desk of the Ashland Library or mailed to 410 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland, OR 97520 by the same date.
