Josh Gross, Ashland-based author of the novel Summer of Smoke, will introduce his book and discuss how he sees climate change impacting life in the Rogue Valley. Medford Planning Department Director Matt Brinkley will share the city’s work on the Climate Change Adaptation and Resiliency Plan. Deputy Fire Marshall Mark Shay will share what the City of Medford is doing to address wildfire risk and what mitigation strategies community members can take to help create fire-wise communities. Set out to sea with the latest Library Escape Room. You overheard at the library about a secret treasure buried by the famous pirate Captain Bianca Book. This ancient treasure belongs in a museum, but those rapscallions want to keep it for themselves! You’ve made it to the pirate’s secret lair, but those who want the treasure for themselves are right behind you! Solve the puzzle, and get out before they arrive and steal it away.

Instructor Jason Riessland will introduce the Korean Natural Farming system developed by Master Han-Kyu Cho of South Korea, which involves the culturing of indigenous microorganisms to improve soil fertility.

In this treasure hunting live-action board game, teens will play against each other to get to the “buried treasure” first. Roll giant dice, step on giant spaces, and get into the competitive spirit! 

Treasures from the Past: Dinosaur Dig with Bugs-R-Us, 5+ YRS 

Thursday, June 23 • 1:00–2:00 PM 

Go back in time to learn about 15 species of well-known dinosaurs! The history of dinosaurs is discussed as we explore real fossils, pettable teeth and claws, and get to feel what the skin of certain dinosaurs was like. Learn what era these creatures came from, living dinos today, and at the conclusion of the program, each visitor will get to do a dinosaur fossil dig and take home whatever—or whomever—you might find!
