Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One Switch games will be available to borrow on June 5

Medford, Oregon (June 5, 2023) — Starting Monday, June 5, residents will be able to use their Jackson County Library Services (JCLS) library card to borrow video games.

The new video game collection includes games for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 — platforms chosen because they’re readily available, and even if there’s a newer version of a console, they can still be played. The games selected for the new collection are all family friendly. Some are intended for a single player, but most are designed for multiple players, making them perfect for families and friends to play together.

“The community has been asking us to add video games to our collection for years, and we’re excited to finally make that happen! ” said Laurin Arnold, JCLS Collection Development Manager. “Having this collection allows us to provide free access to something that can be cost prohibitive for many of our patrons as well as give them the opportunity to try out a game before purchasing it.”

All 15 JCLS branches will have a collection of video games available to check out beginning Monday, June 5. Library cardholders can also place a hold on any of the games in the collection from the website: jcls.org. Like most other items in the collection, patrons of all ages can check out games and keep them for three weeks at a time. Unlike other items in the collection, however, video games cannot be renewed and a limit of two games may be checked out to ensure as many patrons as possible can enjoy the new collection.

Residents of all ages can apply for a free library card at any JCLS branch. Learn more at jcls.org/about/library-cards
