ASHLAND, OR (Oct. 15, 2026) — Kristin Anderson, a longtime library leader with nearly a decade of service at Jackson County Library Services (JCLS), has been appointed Assistant Director of Public Services. In her new role, Anderson will provide leadership and support for public-facing library services across all 15 JCLS branches and help guide systemwide initiatives that serve communities throughout Jackson County. Anderson most recently served as Bear Creek Area Manager, overseeing library operations in
Ashland, Phoenix, and Talent. During her nine years with JCLS, she helped the organization navigate major transitions and challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the Almeda Fire, changes in library technology systems, and significant facility improvement projects.

“Kristin brings a remarkable combination of leadership experience, institutional knowledge, and commitment to public service,” said Interim Director, Frank Phillips. “Her ability to build relationships, support staff, and keep community needs at the center of decision-making makes her an excellent fit for this role.” A recognized leader within Oregon’s library community, Anderson has led numerous systemwide initiatives at JCLS. She established the library’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee, developed the organization’s library blog program, served as a leader for readers’ advisory initiatives, and oversaw major projects including the implementation of the Central Point Spark Space, several construction projects at the Ashland Branch Library, and the addition
of the Book Lockers at the Ashland YMCA.

Before joining JCLS in 2017, Anderson spent more than a decade with Columbus Metropolitan Library in Ohio, where she served in youth services leadership roles, led systemwide programs, and helped develop service models for one of the nation’s most respected public library systems. Her professional background also includes management and marketing leadership positions in publishing and children’s media organizations. Anderson holds a Master of Library and Information Science from Kent State University, a Master of Business Administration from The University of Texas at Austin, and a bachelor’s degree from Scripps College. She is an active member of professional organizations including the American Library Association, Oregon Library Association, and Southern Oregon Library Federation.

In her new position, Anderson said she looks forward to strengthening connections with library staff and communities across Jackson County. “I see my role as supporting all Public Services staff throughout the county,” Anderson said. “My goal is to listen, learn, help solve problems, and ensure we continue providing excellent library service to every community we serve. I want to understand what staff need to do their best work, remove barriers where I can, and help us move forward together.” Although based primarily in Medford, Anderson plans to spend significant time visiting library branches throughout the county, particularly locations where she has had fewer opportunities to work directly with staff. Her focus will be on relationship-building, operational support, and ensuring that local community needs continue to inform countywide library services.
