Ashland, Oregon (September 8, 2025) — The Ashland Branch of Jackson County Library Services is a vital community resource, offering spaces designed for learning, connection, and access to programs and services. We seek to provide a welcoming environment where all individuals can explore, grow, and engage with the resources available to them.
Our warm summer months see an increase in the use of our outdoor spaces by members of the public. While these spaces are open and accessible during library hours, they are intended for temporary use and shared enjoyment. We ask that all visitors help maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive atmosphere for everyone.
As some concerned patrons have pointed out, there is a difference between utilizing public services and hanging out on the lawn for extended periods of time. In response, we are actively working with the City of Ashland and the Ashland Police Department to address concerns of extended presence on library grounds thoughtfully and collaboratively.
Libraries are, and will continue to be, welcoming spaces. With thoughtful investment in facilities designed to support all patrons, we can expand our ability to connect everyone to information, ideas, and each other. Community support for such initiatives, including funding opportunities, is vital to ensuring our library remains a safe, inclusive, and responsive space for all.
We remain committed to balancing access, safety, and community well-being, and we appreciate your support and concern as we navigate the future as one community.
