New Year Resources: 2019

Be healthier

• Find healthy recipes in your favorite magazine, try a new cookbook from the library, or explore recipes and restaurant reviews in our Culinary Arts Collection.
• Use the Library's Health and Wellness Resource Center and Alternative Health Module to learn about medicine, nutrition, diseases, herbal remedies, and more.
• The Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Collection offers a wide spectrum of information, including proven treatment techniques, experimental research, and more.
• Attend a free Tai Chi class or other health and wellness program at the library, or borrow an exercise DVD to take home.
• Take a free online course in meditation, mindfulness, or stress management.

Learn a new skill or hobby

• Learn to make anything—from cider or fermented vegetables to an infinity scarf, a duct tape wallet, or origami—during one of our free craft programs.
• Borrow a library ukulele and learn to play! 
• Join a Classical Recorder Group.
• Take up knitting, crocheting, or needlepoint.
• Play Scrabble, chess, cribbage, or tabletop strategy board games with fun, active groups.
• Check out “how-to” books of every kind, from How to Raise the Perfect Dog to How to Build your Own Greenhouse… we can help you reach your goal!
• Learn a new language using Mango Languages or Digitalia’s language courses.

Advance your career

• Take a free interactive online course through Gale Courses. As a library cardholder in good standing, you are entitled to these courses at no cost. Courses run for six weeks and new sessions begin every month.
• JobsNow provides live, interactive online help with the job search process. Access career resources, and learn how to ace an interview and build a winning resume.

Succeed in school, and beyond

• Improve your grades with in-person homework help, AWE Learning Stations, and HelpNow online academic services and study tools through Brainfuse.
• Learn to code at Spark Space in Central Point, or at the coding station in the Medford Teen Library or take a free online course on programming or game development.

Make it a bookish 2019

With new titles arriving daily, we have something for every interest.

• Use the library catalog to explore staff curated lists, award-winning books, new titles, and bestsellers.
• Try an eBook or digital audiobook.
• Join a library-sponsored book club, or borrow one of our many Book Club Kits.
• Use Book Advice for customized recommendations from our resident experts, or explore the Novelist Reader Database for book suggestions based on mood, genres, and read-alikes.

As a library user, you’re already succeeding on this resolution. With every free program you attend and every item you borrow or download instead of purchase, your savings add up!

• Check the bottom of your library receipt to see your savings grow throughout the year.

Spend more time with friends and family

• Bring your child or grandchild to a storytime. 
• Meet your friends for an arts & crafts program or noontime lecture, or make new friends at a library-sponsored book club or baby social hour. 
• Bring the family to a free library concert or attend a family game day.
• Listen to audiobooks, read, or watch a movie together.
