This is an update to our June 8 press release outlining the JCLS reopening plan.
Per state mandate masks are now required in all 15 libraries for patrons over the age of 4. There are no exceptions. JCLS will offer Front Door Service for the purpose of picking up held items for patrons who are unable to wear a mask. We ask that patrons using Front Door Service call ahead before arriving to pick up their holds. Contact information for all JCLS branches can be found at https://jcls.org/hours_locations.
**ORIGINAL PRESS RELEASE**
Jackson County Library Services (JCLS) will welcome patrons back inside all 15 libraries beginning Monday, June 8. The JCLS phased reopening plan was approved by the Jackson County Library District to be implemented in alignment with Governor Brown’s statewide reopening plan.
"While our library spaces will look different since we have rearranged our libraries to accommodate distancing recommendations,” said Kari May, JCLS Director. “We will continue to expand the services that we can provide as our communities slowly reopen, and staff is excited to welcome our patrons back inside."
JCLS temporarily closed branches in mid-March in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. While Library buildings were closed, JCLS never stopped serving the community. The Library provided virtual services, including expanded digital content; eCards; and virtual tech support, storytimes, and programs. JCLS added front door service on May 1.
During this next stage in the reopening process, the hours of operation will vary by location, with some libraries returning to full hours and others remaining at modified hours. To ensure social distancing requirements can safely be met, the number of patrons allowed in each branch may be limited. Current hours are listed at https://jcls.org/hours_locations.
To maintain proper health guidelines, patrons are asked pick up their own holds and use the self-service stations to borrow materials. Floor decals placed at the service desks will assist visitors in maintaining proper distancing. Lounge seating will not be available during this phase.
Computers will be available for patrons on a first-come, first-served basis, with a one-hour limit. Some computers may be unavailable to allow for proper social distancing.
Routine cleaning and disinfecting procedures remain in place to help protect patrons and staff. Staff will disinfect public computers after each use, and disinfecting wipes will be available at self-check stations and near the computers for patrons to use as well. Children’s toys and other difficult to disinfect items will be removed.
Service desks will have plexiglass guards installed. Library staff will wear masks and/or face shields and will perform symptom self-assessments daily. The public is encouraged to wear face masks while visiting library branches.
“We know that many people rely on libraries for their information and entertainment needs,” said May. “We look forward to welcoming everyone back, just in time for Summer Reading."
