JCLS LIBRARIES TO OFFER ENHANCED FRONT DOOR SERVICE

Changes in service delivery will take effect Thursday, November 12

Medford, Oregon (November 10, 2020)—Jackson County Library Services (JCLS) will offer enhanced front door service at all 15 branches beginning Thursday, November 12. The change in service delivery is made in response to Governor Brown’s “pause” in Jackson County’s reopening plan due to sporadic community spread of Covid-19.

Library hours of operation will remain the same at all locations; for current hours, visit jcls.org/hours_locations. Patrons may pick up held items during open hours and must bring a library card or photo ID to collect items. Patrons must wear a mask or face shield. 

While in-person browsing is unavailable, patrons are encouraged to browse the online catalog and curated staff booklists, subscribe to the Library Connect blog, and utilize readers advisory resources to discover new items. Front door service delivery, previously offered in May and June, is now enhanced with two new ways for patrons to access readers advisory services: an online request form and limited in-person advice.

“We wanted to ensure that patrons could easily access advice on selecting their next great read,” said Claudine Taillac, Assistant Director of Public Services. “Patrons can use an online form to provide details of what they want to read next, and a list of 10 available items will be emailed to them, with links to the catalog where they can place a hold. Patrons will also be allowed to enter the library one-at-a-time to speak to library staff for book recommendations.”

Computer sessions will remain available during open hours on the hour only, and are first-come, first-served. Patrons are limited to a single 50-minute session per day. Mobile printing is available at all branches. Learn more at jcls.org/computer_wifi/printing.

Patrons who utilize computers or in-person services must follow all safety protocols, including wearing a mask and/or face shield. 

The Library will continue to provide diverse virtual programming, including storytimes, author talks, lectures, and more. The popular Library of Things and Take & Make Kits will remain available during enhanced front door service. The Library’s extensive digital collection remains available for remote access, including audiobooks, eBooks, digital magazines, streaming movies, and music downloads.
