Medford Comic Con Volunteer: Roles and Positions

Become a part of the Medford Comic Con by volunteering to assist staff in bringing this even to our community.

Volunteer Positions

There's plenty for you to do at the Medford Comic Con, and we're sure we have the right fit! Take a look at the positions available and find the role(s) that suit you! Most positions have two-hour shifts on Saturday or Sunday.

Greeter

Greeters are the first people attendees meet when arriving at Medford Comic Con. They answer questions and solve problems to ensure everyone has a safe and positive experience.

Responsibilities and Duties

Welcomes Comic Con attendees. Hands out bracelets and program materials.
Answers questions regarding event layout, schedule, and activities. 
Provides directions to workshop locations, vendor areas, restrooms, etc. 
Report safety or security issues to MCC staff. 
Other duties as assigned.

Work Location

Welcome tables located at Medford Branch Library and Rogue Community College Higher Education Center (HEC) entrances.

Qualifications

Warm and welcoming personality, ability to stay calm and focused in a busy environment, problem-solving skills and dependability.

Commitment Expected

Two hour and fifteen-minute shift on Saturday, April 27 or Sunday, April 28, 2019.

Floater/Hospitality/Messenger

These volunteers help Medford Comic Con run smoothly and successfully. They roll with the punches and fill in wherever needed.

Responsibilities and Duties

Assist other volunteer positions.
Answer questions and provide directions, and resolve issues.
Deliver materials and messages.
Report safety or security issues to MCC staff. 
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Warm and friendly personality, ability to be flexible and focused in a busy environment, ability to stay calm, problem-solving skills and dependability. 

Commitment Expected

Two hour and fifteen-minute shift on Saturday, April 27 or Sunday, April 28, 2019.

Workshop Host

Workshop Hosts assist with the coordination of workshops and indoor vendors to ensure everyone has a positive experience.

Responsibilities and Duties

Greet and welcome workshop attendees as they arrive.
Assist workshop presenters with setup and cleanup.
Introduce workshop presenters at the start of each workshop. 
Track and report attendance at each workshop (room count). 
Provide directions and assistance to attendees.
Prevent over-occupancy in the rooms. 
Report safety or security issues to MCC staff. 

Work Location

Workshops are located at Medford Branch Library and Rogue Community College Higher Education Center (HEC) Building and RCC Building C.

Warm and welcoming personality, public speaking ability, attention to detail, ability to stay calm and focused in a busy environment, problem-solving skills and dependability.

Commitment Expected

Two hour and fifteen-minute shift on Saturday, April 27 or Sunday, April 28, 2019.

Human Sign/Information Desk

Human Sign volunteers advertise workshops and presentations throughout Medford Comic Con.  Interacting with the public wearing eye-catching costumes. Cosplayers preferred. Information Desk Volunteers answer questions and help solve problems to ensure everyone has a safe, positive experience at Medford Comic Con.

Responsibilities and Duties

Walking greeter.
Know the MCC grounds, where key places to visit are and MCC trivia. 
Circulate during Comic Con carrying signs and event guides for attendees.
Provide directions to attendees.
Report safety or security issues to MCC staff. 
Other duties as assigned.

Work Location

Medford Comic Con venues.

Qualifications

Physical ability to walk/stand for up to two hours. Outgoing, warm and enthusiastic personality, ability to stay calm and focused in a busy environment, good communication skills and dependability.

Commitment Expected

Two hour and fifteen-minute shift on Friday, April 26 to make signs. Two-hour shift on Saturday, April 27 or Sunday, April 28, 2019.

Pre & Post Planning

These volunteers help with preparation prior to and after the event to help ensure that future Medford Comic Cons improve every year.

Responsibilities and Duties

Be available before and/or after Medford Comic Con. 
Assist with behind-the-scenes tasks.
Report safety or security issues to MCC staff. 
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Warm and enthusiastic personality, ability to stay calm and focused in a busy environment, patience, problem-solving skills, and dependability.

Commitment Expected

Two-hour shift based on needs and availability before and/or after Saturday, April 27 or Sunday, April 28, 2019.

Set-up/Take-down Crewmember

Set-up and Take-down Crewmembers prepare for the fun to begin at Medford Comic Con and help return the buildings back to normal.

Responsibilities and Duties

Set up tables and chairs.
Deliver materials.
Post or remove signs.
Report safety or security issues to MCC staff.
Other duties as assigned.

Medford Comic Con venues.

Qualifications

Physical ability to move and lift event supplies up to 45 lbs. and dependable.

Commitment Expected

Two hour and fifteen-minute shift on Friday, April 27 or Sunday, April 28, 2019.

Capacity Monitor

Capacity Monitors keep accurate counts of attendees to Medford Comic Con.

Responsibilities and Duties

Accurately count the number of attendees coming through entrances.
Provide attendees with a wristband at the entrance.
Provide wristbands to any attendees who missed receiving one at the entrance. 
Keep an accurate count of room attendance to prevent over-occupancy. 
Report safety or security issues to MCC staff. 
Other duties as assigned

Pleasant manner, ability to stay calm and focused in a busy environment, accuracy, and dependability.

Commitment Expected

Two hour and fifteen-minute shift on Saturday, April 27 or Sunday, April 28, 2019.

Costume Contest Organizer

Costume Contest Organizers ensure that the contests on Saturday and Sunday are organized, positive, welcoming and fun.

Responsibilities and Duties

Register participants prior to the contest.
Keep accurate costume contest participants and spectators. 
Provide directions and assistance to attendees. 
Report safety or security issues to MCC staff. 
Other duties as assigned.

Work Location

Medford Library Reading Room

Qualifications

Warm and enthusiastic personality, ability to stay calm and focused in a busy environment, patience, basic computer skills, problem-solving skills, and dependability.

Commitment Expected

Three-hour shift on Saturday, April 27 or Sunday, April 28, 2019.

Kingdom of Stories

The Medford Children’s department will be transformed into a Kingdom of Stories at the Medford Comic Con. These volunteers may assist in a number of positions within the Kingdom.

Responsibilities and Duties

Scribe - Write the children’s stories on the pages of the oversized book at the entrance of the Kingdom, as told by children who enter the Kingdom of Stories. Create joint stories, start or complete storylines. 
Star Wars Coordinator –Lead the lightsaber craft, replenishing craft materials and keeping the area tidy.
Greek God-Parent Coordinator –Facilitate Greek God-Parent Quiz.  Hand out Greek God-Parent I.D. badges and lanyards to children. 
Narnia Wardrobe Coordinator –Pass out and replenish Turkish delights. Current Oregon Food Handler’s card is required for this position. 
Mad Hatter Tea Party Assistant –Lead the Drink Me Vial activity.  Children will make and fill their own “Drink Me” vials. Replenish activity supplies and keep the area tidy.
Butterbeer Server –Serve and make Butterbeer. Current Oregon Food Handler’s card is required for this position. 
Face Painting Coordinator –Skilled face painter with the ability to paint children with Harry Potter, LOTR, Alice in Wonderland, Star Wars, Narnia, Percy Jackson, and OZ designs.

Medford Library Children’s Department

Qualifications

Warm and enthusiastic personality, ability to stay calm and focused in a busy environment, likes working with children, problem-solving skills, and dependability. Some positions require a current Oregon Food Handler’s card. 

Commitment Expected

Two hour and fifteen-minute shift on Saturday, April 27 or Sunday, April 28, 2019.
