Free Adult Basic Computer Classes are offered during August at the Central Point, Jacksonville, Medford, and White City branch libraries. All classes are bilingual (English and Spanish) and seating is limited. Reservations are encouraged. Please call the individual library branch to reserve a spot in any or all classes.

Everyone is invited to a magic show specially designed to inspire reading on Tuesday, August 10, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Butte Falls Branch Library, 626 Fir Avenue.
All ages are invited to learn about rocks, minerals, and fossils on Wednesday, August 11, from 2 – 3 p.m., at the Jacksonville Branch Library, 340 West “C” Street.
As part of its Summer Reading Program, Jackson County Library Services is proud to host three performances by the internationally-known Eulenspiegel Puppeteers. The touring troupe will be presenting Little Red Riding Hood using Bohemian rod marionettes and handmade pop-up scenery.

Award-winning storyteller, Christopher Leebrick, brings his remarkable storytelling ability to Jackson County libraries as part of the Jackson County Library Services Summer Reading Program.
Southern Oregon Stitchers, a local chapter of the Embroiderers’ Guild of America, is displaying its members’ work during the month of July at the Medford Branch Library, 205 South Central Avenue.
Part of the display is a reproduction of the first known embroidery completed on American soil. The original, now housed in the Pilgrim Hall Museum in Plymouth, Massachusetts, was done by Loara Standish, circa 1653. Ms. Standish was the daughter of Captain Myles Standish, of the Mayflower.
Come play one of the oldest games on earth. The Chess Club will meet on the third Saturday of each month from 1-3 p.m. in the Medford Branch Teen Library, 205 South Central Avenue.

Preschool storytimes for children ages three and up are offered at your Jackson County Library. Attending storytime is a wonderful way to introduce your children to the library as well as helping them learn early literacy and social skills which prepare them for reading and kindergarten.
We also offer programs for pre-walking babies and wobblers (children who are walking but not yet ready for preschool storytime). Please contact Youth Services Manager Marian Barker at 541-774-6423 for more information.
Adults can join in the fun of summer reading and win prizes, too. Jackson County Library Services hosts the adult Summer Reading Program, “Water Your Mind: Read.” Pick up a reading log at any branch library, list four books you have read or listened to between June 14 and August 14, return the form to a local library, and you will be entered to win a prize. Weekly winners will receive a gently-used book. At the end of the summer, each branch will draw a winner for a grand prize. All completed entries need to be turned in by August 14, 2010 to qualify for these prizes.

“Make a Splash – READ!” is the Summer Reading Program theme this summer at Jackson County Library Services. Children will explore the world of water through stories, songs, games, and other activities about oceans, rivers, lakes, pools, and the creatures that live there.
Area teens are invited to “Make Waves at Your Library” by participating in the Jackson County Library’s teen summer reading program. The program starts as soon as school is out and continues through August 14.
Jackson County Library users have access to e-book titles 24/7. Through the Library2Go link, card holders can browse the collection, checkout, and download e-books, audiobooks, and videos, anytime, anywhere.
Jackson County Reads 2010! Everyone in Jackson County is encouraged to read and discuss Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace…One School at a Time. Written by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin, it is an inspiring account of Mr. Mortenson's mission to counteract terrorism by building schools, especially for girls, throughout the breeding ground of the Taliban in Central Asia. Three Cups of Tea is an unforgettable adventure and an inspiring true story.
This free lunchtime series, featuring well-known writers and historians, brings alive the people, values, and events that shaped our Southern Oregon heritage. Lectures are co-sponsored by the Southern Oregon Historical Society and Jackson County Library Services and held at the Medford Branch Library on the first Wednesday of each month, 12-1 p.m and at the Ashland Branch Library on the second Wednesday of each month, 12-1 p.m.
